DUO UPPED TO VP SALES POSTS

Eddy Steady at Hollywood; Wayne's World at Universal/Motown
While retail woes continue in the U.S., two labels are making moves in an effort to strengthen their sales divisions.

Curt Eddy "And The Cruisers" has been named Vice President Sales for Hollywood Records by Sr. VP Sales & Mktg. Daniel Savage "Garden," while "A Hard" Wayne "Is Gonna Fall" Chernin has been upped to Vice President of Sales for Universal/Motown Records Group by Sr. VP Sales Pat Monaco.

Just call them "your VPnesses." God, that joke never gets old, does it?

Based in Burbank, Eddy will be responsible for all sales efforts on behalf of Hollywood Records and its affiliated labels.

"Since I first met him when we were both at PGD more than 10 years ago, Curt has always impressed me with his keen industry savvy, team spirit and fervent passion for music," Savage commented. "His refocusing and re-energizing of the sales department will be a critical element in accelerating the success of our labels. And he's willing to double as Goofy at Disneyland on weekends."

Added Sr. VP/GM Abbey Konowitch: "Curt's wealth of top-level contacts as well as his experience with the most powerful music distribution company makes him a key addition to our executive team. And he's got incriminating stuff on everyone in the business."

Said Eddy: "To be part of the Hollywood family and still have a strong connection with UMVD, as a distribution partner, is the best of both worlds. Now I can get promo DVDs from Universal and Buena Vista."

Eddy comes to Hollywood from UMVD, where he was as Sr. VP Field Sales & Marketing. He started his industry career at PGD as a Marketing Manager for the SW branch in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Chernin, who will be based in the label's New York City headquarters, will be responsible for developing and executing extensive retail marketing plans for Elton John, Brian McKnight, Nelly, 3 Doors Down, Godsmack, India.Arie, Master P and Juvenile, among many others.

Commented Monaco: "Wayne has quickly established himself as an integral part of the Universal/Motown team. Since he joined us, he has displayed an uncommon sense of dedication, loyalty and love of music that has helped us drive sales to the next level. His creativity, winning approach and consummate professionalism have brought a fresh perspective. And he works for peanuts."

Added Chernin: "Working at Universal/Motown is truly a privilege because I get to work with all types of artists at many different levels of development. I am very grateful to Pat Monaco, who continues to challenge me, and also taught me there is always a different and better way to do our job. I am also thankful to [Universal/Motown Chairman] Mel Lewinter, [Universal President] Monte Lipman and [Motown President/CEO] Kedar Massenburg for lending me the key to the executive washroom."

Prior to joining Universal, Chernin served as VP Sales for Island Records and worked at PGD.
