MTV GETS DIGITAL

Music Channel Launches MTVHits and MTVJams
Add two more 24-hour digital channels to MTV’s slate.

MTVHits and MTVJams are now available to cable subscribers.

The last two channels the network launched were MTV2 on Aug. 1, 1996, and MTV Espanol in 1997.

The new channels target fans of pop, R&B and rap. "Both MTVHits and MTVJams were developed in direct response to our audience’s tastes and demands," explained MTV/MTV2 President Van Toffler. "These two new channels give music fans a destination 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to see and hear the music and artists they love. We now have the ability to offer greater choices of music to our audience. Expect an MTVPolka and MTVKlezmer real soon."

MTVHits (no relation) will program the best pop music from a variety of artists, including Britney Spears, Blink-182, NSYNC and Destiny’s Child, aimed at the 12-24 market, which represents the younger end of MTV’s demographic spread.

MTVJams will feature nonstop hip-hop, R&B and soul music, including Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, India.Arie, DMX and D’Angelo. It will replace MTV X across all digital-cable services.
