——Steve Leeds, Universal/Motown Sr. VP New Technologies

LEEDS FOLLOWS AS SR. VP NEW TECHNOLOGIES AT UNI/MOTOWN

Veteran Promo Exec Taks New Responsibilities
Steve Leeds, and Universal/Motown Records' New Technologies Department will now follow.

The veteran promotion executive has been promoted to Senior Vice President of New Technologies for the label by Chairman Mel "O. Yellow" Lewinter, Universal Records President "The Full" Monte Lipman and Motown President/CEO Kedar "Critical" Massenburg.

Most recently Sr. VP Promotion/Video for the label, Leeds will oversee all of Universal's new media activities, including the creation of strategic alliances and marketing partnerships to expand the company's core business assets and increase sales, as well as offering online inducements to add up to three inches to your girth. He will develop the label's strategies in the area of new, emerging technologies and multimedia, help structure its involvement in Internet-related activities, including e-commerce, the digital distribution of music and downloading the entire Chumbawamba catalog from Kazaa.

Stated Lipman: "Steve's reputation as one of the most respected music people in the industry is richly deserved. As our business continues to grow, it is important to have a team in place to drive new technologies and there is no one better suited for that challenge than Seve. He is a consummate professional, whose track record and contacts in the radio, television and creative arenas are second to none. He is musically driven, and possesses the dedication to help strengthen our core mission of being the most creative, innovative and efficient label in the business. And he never fails to pick up the lunch check."

Commented Massenburg: "Having Steve move into this broader role presents an excellent opportunity for Universal and Motown to enhance our online activities. This structure will enable us to provide a central point for all of our e-related businesses, greatly improving our ability to meet the needs of our artists. Having devoted his entire career to pushing the creative envelope even further, Steve is a natural fit to drive our efforts. You should see him lip-sync the entire Marvellettes songbook."

Said Leeds: "I am grateful to Doug Morris, Mel, Monte and Kedar for this tremendous opportunity to expand the playing field for me even further. My main objective will be to take advantage of and develop new ways to build awareness of our artists and drive sales. We will utilize the various technologies available to us and apply them to all areas of business, from radio and television to mass media...starting with spamming this release to our online data base of 43,985,000 names."

Leeds was the first promotion executive hired when Universal Records was launched in 1996. Most recently, he was Sr. VP of Promotion/Video for the label. Prior to joining Universal, Leeds served as VP Alternative Music & Video Promotion for Island Records. He also helped PLG/PolyGram Label Group as Director of Video & Alternative Music. Leeds also helped launch the Brazil and Asian divisions of MTV as Director of International Talent, though he is probably best-known as "Harvey's brother."
