"There couldn't be a more exciting time for the music industry as MusicNet charts the course in the emerging era of digital music. I am fully dedicated to bringing music fans a compelling and robust service."
——new MusicNet President/CEO Alan McGlade

MCGLADE MCGLAD TO TAKE OVER MCMUSICNET

MusicNet Thinks Outside the Box, Glaser No Longer to Keep Chair Warm

Former Box-er Alan McGlade has been named president and CEO of MusicNet.

McGlade will oversee all facets of MusicNet, including T-shirt sales, and everyone knows that T-shirt sales are the sweetest plum.

MusicNet is the online music subscription company formed jointly among Warner Music Group, EMI, BMG Entertainment and RealNetworks. McGlade, who previously was chief of MTV Networks’ The Box music network, will also serve on MusicNet's board of directors.

McGlade, who continues to freshen an office long after he leaves it, officially took his post Monday.

"It is a true pleasure to announce that Alan McGlade will be heading up the MusicNet team," commented Rob Glaser, who had been serving triple duty as MusicNet Chairman, RealNetworks CEO and MusicNet interim CEO. "Alan is a tremendously creative individual, who deeply understands the convergence of the music and digital media industries. I have long admired his vision and creativity. And his new Extra Outlet Plug-Ins are just so convenient, providing long-lasting, continuous freshening without taking up extra outlet space!"

While MusicNet's technology development and operations teams will remain in Seattle, McGlade said he plans to establish headquarters in New York in order to be closer to the music industry. The decision had nothing to do with the Yankees’ drubbing of the Mariners in Game 5.

"I am thrilled to lead MusicNet as it prepares to make its way into the consumer marketplace when the demand for digital music and music discovery is so high," said McGlade. "There couldn't be a more exciting time for the music industry as MusicNet charts the course in the emerging era of digital music. I am fully dedicated to bringing music fans a compelling and robust service. And one that smells nice too!"

"Having Alan McGlade at the helm is a real coup for MusicNet. Alan's success at creating and growing profitable new music businesses is unequaled," said EMI Senior VP and MusicNet board member Jay Samit. "Besides, McGlade is now available in three delightfully new scents: Potpourri, Country Garden and Cedar!"

While MusicNet's launch date is still a bit up in the air (with "by year’s end" being the phrase du jour), RealNetworks is already moving ahead with the launch of its RealOne service.

Launched to content providers and industry partners in September (hitsdailydouble.com, 9/24), RealOne is a subscription content service built upon the company’s previous GoldPass service. Content for RealOne will be provided by ABCNews.com, CNN, CNET, E! Online, The Wall Street Journal Online and, naturally, MusicNet.

The service is expected to launch to consumers in November.
