PATRIOTISM INFILTRATES RADIO
Radio stations have been taking to the airwaves with musical responses to last weeks terrorist attacks. Programming at many stations has been a bit shuffled due to suspected sensitivity and heightened patriotism thats prevalent across the country. According to Mediabase 24/7 tracking service, on Tuesday, September 11, the day of the tragedy, music content was reduced by more than 40%, with most stations switching to "news mode." Lee Greenwoods "God Bless the U.S.A." received more than 2,100 plays the day after the attack, compared to 10 plays the day before. Not far behind, renditions of the "Star-Spangled Banner" by artists like Whitney Houston and Faith Hill, and Ray Charles "America the Beautiful" saturated the airwaves. Classic socially conscious tracks, Marvin Gayes "Whats Going On" and John Lennons "Imagine," received significantly more airplay, too. Mediabase also noted that songs that referenced planes or tragic deaths almost disappeared from the airwaves.

BROOKS DECLINES BEER DELIVERY
In light of the recent U.S. tragedy, Garth Brooks has postponed the release of his new single, "Beer Run," a duet with George Jones. The song was expected to be released last Monday, September 17, at a news conference. "Were still trying to decide when its appropriate to move ahead, and these decisions take time," Brooks said. "I know weve been told to pick up and go on as normal, but music has always been a response to the times, and I just cant find it in my heart to feel the Beer Run is appropriate for right now." The single will appear on George Jones The Rock: Stone Cold Country 2001, due October 2.  In related news, although "Beer Run" has been postponed, that didn't stop HITS' birthday boy Mike Murphy from restocking the office refrigerator with a new six-pack.
