RIOPORT ADDS SUB-BASED ONLINE MUSIC TO PULSEONE SERVICE

Service Apparently Has Absolutely Nothing to Do With Duran Duran

RioPort today announced that it is on track to launch online music subscriptions as part of its PulseOne Service through e-tail partners in early 2002.

RioPort's PulseOne Service already includes streaming samples and promotional downloads that timeout after 30 days, as well as a full catalog of "buyable" major label singles and album downloads.

"RioPort’s PulseOne Service is designed to support the varied initiatives of both e-tailers and content owners so they can best determine how to present digital music to consumers," said RioPort President/CEO Jim Long.

RioPort already provides the e-commerce and delivery infrastructure needed for music sales by major e-tailers and online sites such as BestBuy.com, Hewlett-Packard, MTV.com, VH1.com, HOB.com and Radio Free Virgin, among others.

In April, RioPort struck licensing deals with all five major record labels for commercial downloads (hitsdailydouble.com, 4/3, 4/4). That same month, RioPort announced its Direct-to-Device technology, technology that ensures the protected delivery of digital music downloads for playback on secure non-PC devices, such as portable digital audio players and enabled cellular phones. RioPort’s device partners include Compaq, Nokia, Samsung, SONICBlue, Sanyo and Nike, who apparently plan to digitally enable their shoes.

RioPort also announced today that Sanyo Electric is integrating RioPort's Direct-to-Device technology with its new SSP-PD10 portable digital audio player, currently available in Japan only. Sanyo will offer the service through http://www.musicsanyo.co.jp, the first site in Japan that provides a direct music download service from the Internet. At launch, RioPort will provide Sanyo with 70 tracks from artists such as P. Diddy, Radiohead, Motley Crue, Blind Melon, Nelly and others.
