"HEROES" TRIBUTE CD, DVD SET FOR DECEMBER RELEASE
All Performances Included on Video and Audio Releases, Proceeds to Go to September 11 Fund
After weeks of negotiations, the members of the Big Five have formally announced the details of the much-anticipated CD and DVD/videocassette release of America: A Tribute to Heroes, the companion to the telethon of the same name.

The release date was initially 11/13, but there was apparently so much to work out that the date had to be pushed back three weeks.

The project represents an unprecedented collaboration not only in terms of the music industry—with BMG, EMI, Sony, UMG and WMG coming together—but also in terms of TV. ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC organized and totally underwrote the telethon, which originally aired on Sept. 21.

The distributors' net proceeds from the CDs and the DVD/videocassettes will go to the September 11 Telethon Fund, which, as a service to Fox NewsBill O’Reilly, we’d like to emphasize is being administered by the United Way.

All five music companies will suspend label exclusivity clauses for their artists, as well as waive all publishing fees under their control in connection with the sale of the CD and DVD/videocassette. In addition, all the performers have waived all of their rights and fees.

The two-disc CD set, featuring 21 musical performances, will be released by Interscope Records in the U.S. and Canada on Dec. 4, with Universal handling the distribution in those territories. The CD set will be released outside of North America by Sony Music Entertainment starting Dec. 3.

The DVD and videocassette, which includes every minute of the original live event, are being released worldwide by Warner Bros. Records in pattern with the CD.

The musical tracks include Bruce Springsteen performing "My City Of Ruin," U2 performing "Walk On," Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performing "I Won't Back Down," Enrique Iglesias performing "Hero," Neil Young performing "Imagine," Billy Joel performing "New York State of Mind," Mariah Carey performing "Hero," Sting performing "Fragile," Paul Simon performing "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Celine Dion performing "God Bless America" and Willie Nelson, joined by a host of superstars performing "America the Beautiful."

Celebrities also appearing on the DVD and video include Muhammad Ali, Amy Brenneman, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Franz, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Ray Romano, Will Smith, Jimmy Smits, Sela Ward and Robin Williams.
