HOUSTON TO ARISTA: NO PROBLEM
Multi-Platinum diva Whitney Houston has inked an exclusive long-term recording agreement with Arista Records for a guaranteed $100 million, covering six new studio albums and at least two greatest hits packages. She received a cool $25 million upon signing.
The pact was negotiated by legal eagle Allen Grubman and announced by label boss Antonio "L.A." Reid, who had made it a priority to re-sign the superstar after taking over the reigns at Arista.
"I've had the pleasure of working with Whitney as a producer and songwriter for more than ten years and I regard her as a close, personal friend," said Reid. "I look forward to a warm and productive relationship with Whitney here at Arista for many, many years to come."
Houston has sold more than 140 million albums, singles and videos globally since she started at the label in 1983. With last year's double-CD "Greatest Hits" colletion, Houston extended her recordof eight consecutive multi-Platinum albums. She has also won six Grammys, and the only artist to enter the album chart at #1 and to chart seven consecutive #1 singles. She plans to enter the studio soon.
"I am so excited with this new deal and I'm looking forward to start work on my next album," she said. "Arista Records has been my home since the beginning of my career. I am happy to be continuing the relationship and I look forward to working with L.A. Reid and the new Arista family. Now, Bobby, will you please bring me my slippers?"
