ONE-DAY SALES: JACKSON, BACKSTREET BOYS, ENRIQUE SING, DANCE THEIR WAY TO THE TOP

Break Out the Sequined Gloves! "Invincible" Headed for #1!!
Never underestimate a forty-something man in a surgical mask who hangs out with Corey Feldman and McCauley Culkin.

Today's early reports from national accounts are all treat and no trick for Epic: Michael Jackson's Invincible, his first album since 1997's Blood on the Dance Floor, will debut at #1 on next week's HITS Top 50 Albums chart.

Jackson has the clear edge over the Backstreet Boys, whose Hits—Chapter One (Jive) is running behind Invincible, and hard-charging long-shot Enrique Iglesias with his Interscope album, Escape. Jackson's opus is on track to sell over 330k, while BSB and Julio's son are each moving at a clip indicating a first-week total around 250k. The question now is whether Enrique can actually threaten his management stablemates at The Firm for #2 behind the King of Pop. (Greatest hits albums tend to trend higher through the week because they generally have lower first days than albums of new material.)

This week's #1, Def Jam/IDJ's DMX, should reside in the Top Five next week, as The Great Depression continues to sell like it's the Roaring '90s.

So grab a pumpkin, carve up your best Captain Eeo Jacko-lantern, and host your own personal Thriller at home tonight. You know that's what we'll be doing.
