"I look forward to meeting you all, in the meantime, do not forget 'it is all about music!'"

New EMI Chief Promises "Thorough Review," Free E-mail
What follows is the complete text of new EMI chieftain Alain Levy's memo to company employees.

It is a great honour to be here in EMI amongst so much artistic and executive talent.

I am sure you are all wondering what we have planned and what is in store for you individually. First of all, we intend to undertake a thorough review of the business and to learn about Virgin and EMI. I want to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation, our artists and our personnel. Many of you will be asked to participate in this exercise and I ask you to be open and frank with your comments. We have no preconceived views about any of the issues that face us but I promise you a fair and decisive review. Of course, there will be changes but I am determined to preserve the great strengths we have in both Virgin and EMI.

In the meantime, the short-term focus must be on the business leading up to Christmas. There are 50 working days left to maximise our sales and minimise our costs and each day counts. We must get to January with a great third quarter behind us and that means all your energy should be focused on this task. David [Munns] and I will have an open line as to any ideas about making it even more successful.

I look forward to meeting you all, in the meantime, do not forget "it is all about music!"

Alain Levy
