Rap mogul Sean Combs was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license after he was caught riding a scooter in Miami Beach's trendy South Beach.
Police pulled Combs over Saturday night (4/14) for making an illegal lane change. A driver's license check by the police showed Combs' license was suspended, so he was arrested and released 20 minutes later after he signed a promise to appear in court, said Miami Beach Police Sgt. Peter Bitume.
The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and possibly jail time, a hell-of-a-lot less than Combs faced during his well-publicized trial on weapons possession and bribery charges in New York, which were ultimately dismissed (hitsdailydouble.com, 3/16).
Combs' spokeswoman said Sunday that the rapper's license appeared to be suspended because of a paperwork delay. "Due to the holiday weekend, paperwork that was processed in New York regarding his license had yet to reach the national system," spokeswoman Nathalie Moar said.
No confirmation the newly named P. Diddy's switch to a scooter from a Bentley was part of his attempt for an "image change."
