EMI STRIKES ONLINE DEAL IN TAIWAN
GigaMedia, a Taiwan-based provider of broadband Internet access, has inked a strategic alliance with EMI Music Asia to pursue business opportunities and develop the online market for music in Taiwan.
The alliance establishes GigaMedia as the strategic new media partner for EMI in Taiwan—the most extensive partnership of its kind in Taiwan between a major music company and a new media company.
GigaMedia and EMI will collaborate in many online areas including the hosting of artist websites, marketing and promotional campaigns integrated with offline initiatives, and the development and execution of new online music services such as subscription and e-commerce.
The agreement will give GigaMedia preferential access to information on EMI's artists, and EMI will own a minority stake in the company. In addition, GigaMedia will spin-off its music site www.Juice.com.tw, to be renamed www.GigaMusic.com.
