MICROSOFT FEELING THE BYRNE
Windows XP Operating System/Media Player Features David Byrne Track
In a move that brought a tear to the eyes of Talking Heads fans, Microsoft today announced that its Windows XP operating system will include a copy of David Byrne’s song "Like Humans Do," to demonstrate the capabilities of the Windows Media Player for the XP. The track, from Byrne’s current Virgin album, "Look Into The Eyeball," will come preloaded in the player and will automatically play the first time it’s used. The Windows Media Player will show album art and lyrics onscreen, plus instructions on how to dance like Byrne.

The new player features improved media playback, CD ripping with Windows Media Audio and enhanced MP3 support. As with the Byrne track, when music plays, users can view purty images that move to the music (just like a laser light show!), check out the album art, and/or read the lyrics.

Windows XP will be available on Oct. 25, but to give you something to do until then, a pre-recorded Byrne concert on windowsmedia.com beginning tomorrow (8/2) at 7 p.m. ET. The hour-long, pre-recorded set, that includes performances of Byrne’s solo favorites as well as some from his days with the Talking Heads, will remain available on demand through August.

"Throughout his career, David Byrne has redefined the boundaries of popular music," said Windows Digital Media General Manager Dave Fester. "This is a great song, with wide appeal, and I think users are going to really enjoy listening to the song while experiencing all the exciting new digital music features of Windows XP. Lord Gates has spoken!"
