OF SMOKING HITS

Expect a lot of red eyes, cotton-mouths and a severe case of the munchies at HITS today—well, expect that any day, but today more so than most.

After the Supreme Court’s May 14 ruling against a "medical necessity" exception to the prohibition of marijuana distribution, we at HITS have tried to find comfort in this blow to our favorite afternoon pastime. However, none have taken the news so well as the staff at Audiogalaxy. The online music site decided to celebrate some of its favorite songs about smoking dope.

While HITS savored taking a hit or two from the choices, the list is nowhere near comprehensive, and knowingly fails to list popular songs such as Weezer’s "Hash Pipe" or anything at all from 311. (It is interesting to note that only one song from Cypress Hill, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley were chosen.) However, Audiogalaxy explained that it ignored obvious choices and defied logical additions "just as the Supreme Court ignored both public opinion and the last 30 years of medical research" in its unanimous decision.

So if you’re upset that "Smoke Two Joints" didn’t make the list, blame Clarence Thomas.
