Recording Academy President and CEO Michael Greene announced that Academy trustees have voted to expand the Rap Field to four categories—almost enough to spin them off into their own awards show—by including the new Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category.
The Rap Field now grows to four categories: Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group, Best Rap Album and the new Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Collaborative efforts of rap and sung performances were previously placed in the Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group category.
In other Grammy news, the mastering engineer of an Album Of The Year winner is now eligible to win a Grammy.
The trustees also voted Nashville Chapter trustee Garth Fundis Chairman of the Board, New York Chapter trustee Carlos Alomar Vice Chairman, and Neil Portnow Treasurer. The three last shared a bill as the Washington Senators’ dynamic double-play combination made famous by the song "Fundis to Alomar to Portnow."
