NAPSTER CASE GETS
TECH-LESS TRIO OF JUDGES

But Their Combined 125 Years Of Experience Includes Rulings On Edison Wax Cylinders
The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has appointed three judges, who have no experience dealing with technology law, to preside over the much-watched Napster case.

The judges—Robert Beezer (72), Mary Schroeder (59) and Richard Paez (53)—are highly acclaimed judicial experts. But because they were randomly selected, it turns out that none has hands-on experience with high-tech legal issues.

Oral arguments in the RIAA's case against Napster are scheduled to begin Oct. 2 in San Francisco. The judges will decide whether Napster's music-sharing service contributes to copyright infringement and should be shut down.

There will be frequent recesses for "Matlock" viewing.
