THE CASE OF THE MISSING WITNESS

Man Accused Of Arguing With Puffy Vanished Faster Than A Speeding Bullet
While the prosecution is set to rest its case against Sean "Puffy" Combs Wednesday (2/21), one pivotal witness will not be taking the stand—the man accused of arguing with the hip-hop mogul shortly before the Club New York shooting in December 1999.

Attorneys for Matthew "Scar" Allen say his whereabouts are unknown.

Said lawyer Kenneth Schreiber, "Mr. Allen, as far as I know, is clearly a fugitive. He... has been unavailable. Unless the district attorney's [office] has their own means of communicating that I don't know about, there's nothing I have to add."

In January, Allen failed to appear for a hearing on an unrelated gun-possession charge in Brooklyn, NY, and faces a bench warrant there.

According to witnesses, Puffy knocked over Allen's drink, leading to an argument in which Allen or one of his friends allegedly tossed money at the rap impresario. The shooting following the fracas injured three people.

The defense team has suggested Allen take the blame for the night's violence, suggesting he and his posse had guns.

Attorneys for Puffy and co-defendants Jamal "Shyne" Barrow and Anthony "Wolf" Jones have expressed interest in having Allen as their witness. According to Schreiber, even if the defense found Allen, they'd be unlikely to call him, since they have no way of knowing what he would say on the stand. And chances are, it wouldn't be as funny as Jennifer Lopez's alleged commentary of "Shyne busted off!"
