Michael Jackson and Aerosmith are among the artists who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Monday, March 19 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. The 16th Annual Induction Ceremony will be televised exclusively on VH1 Wednesday, March 21 at 9 pm (ET/PT). The announcement was made live on VH1 this morning by Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner.

The rest of the class of 2001 includes R&B shouter Solomon Burke, pioneering Chicago doo-wop aggregation The Flamingos, glam-rock icons Queen, singer/songwriter Paul Simon, jazz-popsters Steely Dan and the late Latin pop star Ritchie Valens.

Legendary Island Records founder Chris Blackwell will be inducted in the "non-performer" category, while Elvis Presley/Rick Nelson guitarist James Burton and Chuck Berry piano thumper/arranger Johnnie Johnson enter as "Side men."

Among those artists on the ballot who didn't make the final cut were AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Gram Parsons, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Bob Seger, Kiss, Jobriath and the New York Dolls.
