ARTEMIS-EDEL NEGOTIATIONS ARE DOG GONE!

Insiders are surprised that German music goliath edel's negotiations to acquire a part of Artemis Records have reached an impasse, despite the success of the Baha Men, whose album has climbed into the HITS Top 10 on the strength of "Who Let The Dogs Out."

The Baha Men are signed to ex-Mercury A&R exec Steve Greenberg's S-Curve label, a joint venture with edel, which has been marketed and promoted through Danny Goldberg's Artemis label. edel has been negotiating to buy 15-20% of the label for between $15-20 million in a move to increase their U.S. music presence.

Now, Goldberg's Wall Street angel, C&P Capital's Michael Chambers, a stockholder in the newly merged Yanks/Nets/Devils sports conglomerate, has committed new funds to the label because of its success.

Meanwhile, Goldberg has turned his attentions to Phil Walden's Capricorn label, negotiating to acquire its assets. Peter Mensch and Cliff Burnstein's Volcano is also in the hunt to purchase the label, in part because veteran Walden, a longtime friend of Jimmy Carter who founded the Atlanta-based label with groups like the Allman Bros., looking to make his exit from the record business.

In other news, Danny Goldberg is reportedly offering Tipper Gore the opportunity to play drums on the next Baha Men album in exchange for Joe Lieberman agreeing to write a guest editorial in Tikkun magazine.
