But Those Pesky Beatles and Backstreet Boys Ain’t Going Away
Tool, those wacky boys of prog-metal, hammered out the big story in yesterday's one-day sales. The group's "Salival" CD and DVD set (or CD and VHS set, if you haven't gone completely digital), featuring live and unreleased songs and all of the group's videos, is its first since 1996. Apparently some demand has built up for the Volcano band. At Best Buy, the $29.98 list-priced DVD set (VHS $24.98)—going for $19.99 and $16.99 at the chain—outsold the other big debut this week, Loud act Xzibit's "Restless" album. But here's the thing: stock outages on the Tool box make it difficult to project what it will do for the week. Let's just say it's over-performing and everyone should be happy.
As for Xzibit, it should do in the 200-225k neighborhood, thanks in part to the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg-featured track "X," which is banging. And that's good.
But that number shouldn't be enough to unseat the Beatles (a great last-minute gift for the Baby Boomer on your list) or Backstreet Boys (a great last-minute gift for the Echo Boomer on your list) from securing the top two spots next week. So just don't sit there. Go out and buy an album for somebody.
