SONGBOY.COM REACHES SETTLEMENT WITH NINTENDO

Agrees To Change Corporate And Product Name, But Not Grow Up
Song-Pro.com, Inc. has reached a settlement with Nintendo of America Inc. The company has agreed to change its name from "Songboy.com" to "Song-Pro" as part of the deal. Nintendo, in turn, has granted the company a patent license.

Song-Pro developed a plug-in that enables Nintendo Game Boys to play MP3 song files. As a result, Nintendo filed suit in U.S. District Court in Seattle, claiming the company infringed its intellectual property rights.

The suit against the African-American owned company garnered the attention of Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow/Push Coalition Silicon Valley, which facilitated a meeting between the two parties (Hitsdailydouble.com 6/14).

Said Nintendo Vice President and General Counsel Richard Flamm: "We are pleased that we were able to come together and find a common ground for agreement. Nintendo is committed to protecting its intellectual property rights and we appreciate Song-Pros cooperation in resolving this situation. It would have been really embarrassing if Pokemon had to kick their asses."
