RIAA AND YAHOO INK ONLINE MUSIC LICENSING DEAL

Decided Not To Take A Look Behind Door Number Three
The Recording Industry Association of America and Yahoo have come to terms on the conditions for online music performances on Yahoo-branded Web sites. The licensing deal covers music broadcast on Yahoo Radio and Yahoo Broadcast. Specific terms of the deal were not announced, but they likely include Yahoo giving up its exclamation mark and denouncing Napster, piracy, Eminem and cheating on your tax return.

The U.S. Copyright Office has convened an arbitration to determine terms of a license between the RIAA and companies that have not made deals on their own.

The always-quotable RIAA President/CEO Hilary Rosen paused from her victory dance after beating MP3.com just long enough to say, "Our agreement with Yahoo confirms that music on the Internet will thrive when parties work together. We commend Yahoo for blazing a trail in the marketplace and demonstrating its commitment to the artists who create music. Plus, they know our lawyers can kick anybody's ass!"
