UNIVERSAL WILL DO SOMETHING MAJOR IN SOME AMOUNT OF TIME

Sadly, That Headline Is Almost A Direct Quote From Seagram Head Edgar Bronfman
Seagram Co. President/CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. teased investors Wednesday (12/7) by saying Universal Music Group will announce a "major" alliance with a music distributor in "more than a month but less than two months."

Bronfman, speaking at a UBS Warburg media conference in New York, declined to comment further on the alliances, Reuters reports.

Seagram will soon become part of Vivendi Universal, one of the largest global media companies once the merger between Vivendi, Canal Plus and Seagram is completed.

In October, Universal Music became the first major record label to begin distributing songs online via subscription in a closed trial run of the Internet music service. At the conference, Bronfman said the company was moving its beta test of the service to 20,000 users next week. Currently, the service only offers music from Universal.
