VH1 will present the fourth annual "Divas" concert on April 10 at N.Y.C.'s Radio City Music Hall, which will honor Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, it was announced by Executive VP Programming and Production Jeff Gaspin, who is already making train reservations for the flight-shy belter.
"VH1 Divas Live: The One And Only Aretha Franklin" will air live on the channel Tuesday, April 10 at 9pm ET/PT. The show is being produced in conjunction with New Hall Productions and the Experience Music Project.
Additional talent will be announced shortly.
The first "VH1 Divas" show took place April, 1998, spotlighting Aretha along with Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan and Shania Twain at N.Y.'s Beacon Theatre. "VH! Divas Live '99," which aired on April 13, starred Whitney Houston, Cher, Tina Turner and Brandy, with special guests Elton John, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill and Chaka Khan. Last year's "VH1 Divas 2000: A Tribute to Diana Ross" featured Ross, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill and Donna Summer, plus Destiny's Child, Hilary Swank, RuPaul and Queen Latifah.
The three "Divas" specials are among the all-time highest rated broadcasts in VH1's history. The broadcasts also raise funds for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and John Sykes' overnight stays in the White House Lincoln bedroom. This year's show will specifically benefit Detroit inner city schools in the name of Ms. Franklin.
