Interscope Geffen A&M Gets Personal With "My Music"

If They're Offering "My Music," Whose Music Will I Have?
Interscope Geffen A&M Records and Infinite Mobility have launched "My Music, " a service for users of handheld PDAs, such as PalmPilots and Handsprings. While it's called “My Music,” users will not be hearing any music through the service. Instead, “My Music” provides news and tour dates and lets users order music and merchandise using AvantGo's sync technology.

Artists featured include Eminem, No Doubt, Dr. Dre, Mya, Beck, Enrique Iglesias and Sting. The Wallflowers and U2 are scheduled to be featured in upcoming months. Artists will be added on a monthly basis.

"Interscope's intent is to provide as much information to the fans of IGA's artists in order to extend our lead as the number one music label. 'My Music' is the first step in our goal to build a mobile music community by putting the most up-to-date information in the hands of fans. Our plan is to stay on the cutting edge of technology.” said Courtney Holt, Head of New Media for Interscope Geffen A&M Records. “As long as that doesn't include letting people actually hear music via digital distribution."

"Through 'My Music,' we're breaking down the barriers between popular artists and their fans, as well as providing Interscope with the ability to connect with audiences right when they hear a song, think of a melody, or want artist information,” said Jared Reitzin, mobileStorm's President and CEO. "While music is always around us, our access to artists and artist information hasn't been. We're changing that with 'My Music.' Soon, you'll be able to watch your favorite stars as they live in a specially built house, 24/7 with our ‘My Music Big Brother' application.”
