AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR CANADA’S ANSWER TO THE GRAMMYS ANNOUNCED

Some Of ‘Em Juno, Some You Don’t
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS)—or L'academie canadienne des arts et des sciences de l'enregistrement for our bougie French-Canadian friends—has announced the nominees for the 2001 Juno Awards, Canada's equivalent of the Grammys. Nominees are from home country artists only.

Leading the pack with six nominations is Dreamworks' Pop starlet Nelly Furtado, whose noms include "Best New Solo Artist," "Best Pop Album," and "Best Single." Reprise's Barenaked Ladies are right behind her with five nominations, including "Best Album," "Best Single," "Best Pop Album" and "Best Group."

SoulDecision, Jesse Cook, Isabelle Boulay, Snow and the Matthew Good Band got three nominations each while Treble Charger, Jacksoul, Kardinal Offishall, Adam Gregory, Terri Clark and Sarah Harmer received two nods each. Singer/songwriter/activist Bruce Cockburn will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, which is actually much cooler than it sounds.

Past favorites Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette were shut out this year. Blame Canada

The Awards will be held March 4th in Ontario, and will include performances from Furtado, the Guess Who, the Mofatts and SoulDecision.

And now, for our pals up north, here's the story in French:
