R&B Singer Misunderstands Meaning Of "Jingle Ball," Faces Indecent Exposure Charges

Cedric Hailey, the front half of the Grammy-nominated R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, has been charged with 23 counts of indecent exposure, according to E! Online.

The charges stem from a Dec. 16 holiday concert in Los Angeles, KIIS-FM's annual "Jingle Ball" at the Shrine Auditorium, during which Hailey dropped his pants in front of a crowd of teenagers. The concert was billed as a family event and featured 98 Degrees, Christina Aguilera, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.

According to one 15-year-old concert-goer, "you could see everything." Just what "everything" means to a 15-year-old was unclear at press time.

Following the incident, according to E! Online, about 150 people spilled into the Shrine Auditorium lobby, mostly parents with young children. In full damage-control mode, KIIS DJs promptly took the stage and apologized for the incident. "We do not condone such behavior," read a statement penned by Station Manager Roy Laughlin released by the end of the concert. "Other stations may like their pop stars pantsless, but we do not. I guess we're just old-fashioned that way."

Hailey explained that he thought the event was called the "Dangle Ball" and was merely trying to fulfill his contractual obligation.

The apology wasn't enough to satisfy some of the offended parties, however. The family of one young female concertgoer filed suit against the station, claiming it was negligent in hiring Hailey for the show, despite knowledge of his previous criminal record. In 1993, Hailey pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated sexual contact against a woman who allegedly had been held at gunpoint by another member of his other group, Jodeci.

Hailey will be arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court on April 11 on indecent exposure charges and one count of lewd conduct.

MCA, the group's label, had no comment on the charges.
