BANDS ON THE RUN

RioPort has inked a deal with Nike to provide a digital music download center at Nike.com. As part of the deal, RioPort has created a custom mixer app, the Nike Digital Audio Mixer, which allows users to create custom music playlists to be downloaded into digital music players—"such as Nike's portable Personal Sports Audio (PSA) Play 120"—ostensibly to listen to while working out. If only we could get a pair of Air Jordans with a built-in MP3 player… no, come to think of it, we still wouldn't exercise.

RADIO GETS "STONED"

Beginning 11/10, radio station Web sites will have the opportunity to stream Elektra's upcoming Doors tribute album in its entirety. "Stoned Immaculate: The Music of The Doors," which features covers of the seminal group's tunes by Stone Temple Pilots, Aerosmith, Creed, Smash Mouth, Days of the New and other bands as well as previously unreleased cuts from The Doors and singer Jim Morrison, will be offered to station sites for one week. Meanwhile, the grand-prize winner of a fan contest will receive a customized plaque, the entire Doors catalog and the new comp. Ten runners-up will receive the catalog and comp as well as the "Instant Jim Morrison Blank Verse" software kit.

GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS?

Thomas Dolby Robertson's Beatnik has blinded the Zomba Group with the science of its Mixman eMixes and singles, signing a pact with Jive's parent company. EMixes allow everyday music listeners to digitally remix the songs by pointing and clicking. As part of the deal, NSYNC and Britney Spears will have eMixes available. Zomba joins V2, Interscope, Elektra and Virgin in inking with Beatnik and hoping to score a new copy of "Dream Into Action."

BALANCING ON THE IBEAM

Ibeam and Regent Entertainment will be streaming a full-length film , Boltneck, on Halloween. But wait, there's more: If you're ever in Sunnyvale, CA, stop by and see iBeam's newly opened Network Operations Center. It has a video wall of 100 square feet! There's some other techno mumbo-jumbo too. Oh, by the way, iBeam offers media distribution and Webcasting for companies such as Sony Music, MSNBC, Launch and the Bela Karolyi fan site.

OH, WAIT, WE THOUGHT THEY SAID "NIPPLEBOX."

Looks like this whole Webcasting thing might be going somewhere. Nibblebox has launched its NBX radio with a "Best of College Radio" audio stream. The company has 47 affiliated college radio stations and has created a technology to combine them into a single stream. Nibblebox is co-sponsoring the current Dandy Warhols tour and getting lots of traffic from people who misheard their name like we did.
