CUTTING EDGE ONLINE MUSIC NET LAUNCHES URBAN PORTAL

ARTISTdirect.com Discovers Hip-Hop, Validates It With Web Site
Online music network ARTISTdirect has launched a portal focusing on urban music—URBANdirect.com. Much like its parent site, URBANdirect will feature news and links to the product stores for such artists as Eminem, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Common and Cypress Hill, as well as a weekly Internet TV show.

"We took a look around and thought, ‘This hip-hop thing just might make a splash with the kids,’" said one ARTISTdirect source. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get jiggy with this new site of ours. It’s the sheezy…er…off the heezy…um…I mean, it’s the dope phat…um…it’s swell."


ARTISTdirect has named Paul Stewart, former senior VP of urban A&R at Virgin Records America, as director of urban and hip-hop. Stewart will report to ARTISTdirect senior VP Nick Turner.
