THE BOX GIVES VIEWERS THE "FINAL CUT"

The Box Empowers Viewers, Again
Who wants to be a programmer?

OK, so it doesn't have the kick of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?," but Interactive music video network The Box has teamed with Columbia Records in launching the network's new programming concept, "Final Cut." The interactive feature will incorporate viewer feedback in the creative process of music videos by letting fans be a part of choosing a video's final version. Box viewers won't have a hand in casting or concept (which might not be a plus) but they will have the opportunity to view two versions of a music video, then either call The Box toll free voting phone line or visit www.thebox.com and vote.

"Final Cut" premieres April 17 with two separate versions of the soon-to-be-released "Thug Angels" video from Columbia artist Wyclef. Viewers can vote on their favorite version after, of course, ordering the video(s) on The Box. After a week, The Box will tally the viewer input and evaluate the results with Columbia Records.

The Box Sr. Programming VP Peter Cohen says, "This unparalleled interaction between the music industry and fans will create a new, compelling paradigm for the industry. First and foremost it makes viewers and integral part of the development process. In turn, this information will benefit the labels. But what's really bonus is the fact that our viewers can order twice the Wyclef. Score!" Columbia and The Box will determine which video will be released nationwide April 24.
