The Deals! The Appeals! The Shlemiels!
Farmclub.com and Guitar Center subsid Musician's Friend Inc. have joined forces for a co-branded e-commerce destination. The site will offer musical instruments and other goods and services to the scores of aspiring rock dudes who make up the bulk of Farmclub and MF traffic; the site's creators hope to combine sales revenue and ad cheddar. "Our relationship with Musician's Friend is a natural partnership for Farmclub.com," volunteers Farmclub CEO/President andy schuon',390,400);">andy schuon',390,400);">Andy Schuon. "And yes, you can check out the Flying V, but if I hear the riff from ‘Smoke on the Water' one more time, I'm pulling the plug"… MP3.com may be brainstorming new ways for artists to reach audiences, but the netco's latest announcement suggests some of the old ways haven't entirely lost their luster. michael robertson',390,400);">michael robertson',390,400);">Michael Robertson and friends have struck a deal with Cox Radio to syndicate a compilation of the site's more broadcast-worthy material over 36 of the chain's affiliates. Each of the eight planned "Best of MP3.com" broadcasts will be hosted by what press materials call a "nationally recognized radio disc jockey," though we're not sure what that is (since we're pretty sure Casey Kasem isn't involved), and will feature artists in PoMo, hip-hop, rock, pop and other genres. "The combined audience of these 36 Cox stations in 17 markets is 4.3 million listeners, representing an incredible opportunity for digital artists on MP3.com to gain first-time exposure to new fans around the country," trumpeted Robertson. "In return, Cox radio stations will receive Web enhancements designed to increase each station's unique listeners. And this next compressed file goes out to a little dog named Snuggles."… If you enjoy phrases like "monetize digital content," you (a) probably need to get out more and (b) may be interested to know that streaming media outfit iBEAM Broadcasting has announced its acquisition of secure media/DRM entity Server-Side Technologies. The latter company's services will augment iBEAM's arsenal of streaming and downloadable content. Server-Side numbers Liquid Audio, CDNow, Spinner/Winamp, RioPort, Radiofree Virgin, Interscope Records, Launch.com, Atlantic Records and more among its clients. Working with Server-Side, proclaimed iBEAM President/CEO Peter Desnoes, "will expand our product line greatly by positioning us to serve every need of the entertainment industry." Of course, getting consumers to embrace digital security is a slightly taller order. But hey, that's the entertainment industry's problem, right?…
