THE RETREAT GOES ON

Hollywood Heavies Mancuso, Biondi,
Sagansky And O’Hara Caught In The Net
In a trend that is bleeding the film, TV and music industries of executive talent, dot-com start-ups continue to seek clout with traditional Hollywood by luring longtime industry executives with lucrative stock packages and mega-salary deals.

On Tuesday, veteran entertainment execs Frank Mancuso, Frank Biondi and Jeff Sagansky each said they will join boards of Internet start-ups.

Mancuso, the former CEO of MGM and Paramount Pictures, joined the board of directors of Digital Entertainment Network, the Internet site that is already home to music vets Gary Gersh and John Silva (see Rumor Mill), who are now Net old-timers, relatively speaking.

Sagansky, President and CEO of Pax TV and former Co-President of Sony Pictures Entertainment, joined the board of directors of Fandom Inc.,a site that tailors entertainment news and content to individual fans.

Reelplay.com, a B2B online marketplace for the film and television industry, named Biondi and other former Universal Studios executives to its board.

But all that pales next to the news that HITS Managing Editor Jon O’Hara will desert his post and loving, loyal staff on April 1 to seek his fortune with the recently formed dot-com Powerful Media. Founder/honcho Kurt Anderson lured O'Hara away from HITS with the promise of an above-ground office, a shiny new Sacajawea dollar and a bag of magic beans.

The easily influenced O’Hara makes his move only months after the defection of his mentor, Joe Fleischer, to the infamous MP3.com. Industry watchers and psychiatrists have classified O’Hara’s action as a copycat killing.
