CDNow, Musicmaker.com, EMI Recorded Music and Pizza Hut received honorary Gold records from the RIAA. The awards were the result of the companies' joint promotion which resulted in 800,000 custom CD redemptions. The promotion was supported by a $15 million advertising campaign. They spent $15 million to give away 800k CDs with pizzas?All four plaques should be available on eBay within the next few weeks… Young girls don't just love NSYNC. Hanson's online promotion gave 100,000 fans a chance to be the first to download their new single, "This Time Around," before it was commerically available. Doesn't the word "download" sound dirty? It does to us… ClickRadio Inc. is launching a computer radio service. The company announced a deal to distribute software with pre-programmed music, lyrics, bios and links to artist sites, which are stored on user's hardrives rather than streaming the songs. The company will also add and delete songs from the user's cache, based on individual preferences, through the Internet. Universal Music Group is the first company to license tracks to ClickRadio. Hey, is that a digital download in your hardrive or are you just happy to see us?…Letting fans get involved in picking the tracks for their upcoming record, "Reactionary," punk-rock heroes Face to Face put audio snippets of potential songs online and let people vote on which tracks to include. They got two million votes, 1,999,997 of 'em from a psychotic fan in North Dakota, who really, really wanted them to put "The Macarena" on it… Farmclub.com has named Glenn Kaino head of programming. He's in charge of the creative direction of the company, including the Web site and TV series. His first task will be to shine Matt Pinfield's head so that Ali Landry can apply her make-up while gazing at it…Not to be outdone, RioPort Inc. named James E. Long President/CEO. They also appointed Mark Thompson Chairman of the Board. At the same time, RioPort announced they're launching a fine new virtual wine cooler.
