“I have no interest whatsoever in any opportunity with any other record company, including Universal, Sony, BMG and more specifically, Motown. The purpose of such rumors is to destabilize Elektra and disrupt the work of our great staff.”

RHONE HOME

Exec Not Going Anywhere
Elektra Chairman/CEO Sylvia Rhone assured staffers Monday that, despite rampant rumors, she has no intention of leaving the label for a post at a competing record company.

In a memo issued to employees on both coasts, Rhone addressed “the flurry of rumors circulating” about her departure, and vehemently denied that she has even considered departing.

“I have never had a conversation with anyone about leaving Elektra,” Rhone's internal memo said. “For that matter, I have never even entertained the notion of leaving. This company means far too much to me. Elektra is my home, and I consider the people that work here my family.”

Rumors of Rhone's departure began shortly after former Warner chiefs Bob Daly and Terry Semel stepped down, despite her signing a lucrative contract to stay on at the helm of the label.

With impending changes facing the Warner Music Group, including roger ames',390,400);">roger ames',390,400);">Roger Ames' appointment as CEO and his naming Tom Whalley as the eventual topper at Warner Bros. Records Inc., speculation about Rhone's future has increased.

Her long-term relationship with Universal Music Group chief Doug Morris, whom Rhone considers a mentor, has also fueled talk that perhaps she may be headed to one of Universal's labels, in particular, Motown.

“I have no interest whatsoever in any opportunity with any other record company, including Universal, Sony, BMG and more specifically, Motown,” her memo said. “The purpose of such rumors is to destabilize Elektra and disrupt the work of our great staff.”

Rhone encouraged her staff to “turn a deaf ear too such nonsense,” and put the distractions aside.

Rhone's contract with WMG does not expire for another five years.

High placed sources at WMG said they are committed to Rhone and her Elektra team and continue to question where these rumors are germinating from, concluding that there are “transparent agendas” at play. Mainly, she's got a great parking space and a bitchin' stereo in her office, both widely coveted.
