Music Items That Sound Important When Kurt Loder Reads Them

D ON THE REBOUND
Mike D
of the Beastie Boys, who suffered injuries in a bicycle accident in July sparking reconstructive surgery (hitsdailydouble.com, 7/31), has begun his recovery process. The punk-rapper was released from New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital Wednesday (8/2), following a successful surgical procedure to repair his right shoulder. The crash, due to the removal of D's training wheels, forced the cancellation of the Beasties' anticipated Rhyme & Reason tour with Rage Against The Machine. "Mike D has now been ordered by doctors to wear a sling on the reconstructed area for four to six weeks," a band spokesperson said. "He'll be able to toss beer cans about the stage again in about three months."

UNIVERSAL TO DISTRIBUTE DOPE HOUSE
Rapper South Park Mexican-- known to his close friends and family members as SPM, and sometimes as Carlos Coy -- has inked a P&D for his Dope House imprint with Universal Records. The Houston MC runs the label with his brother, Arthur Coy, whom almost no one calls AC. SPM's three indie releases have sold impressively, and he's won an array of local honors. Unfortunately, he'll now have to pose for wacky trade shots with monte lipman',390,400);">monte lipman',390,400);">Monte Lipman and Cartman.

JAGGER'S LATEST WANTS $35,000 A MONTH
Unemployed Brazilian model Luciana Morad, the 29-year-old DNA-confirmed mother of Mick Jagger's seventh child, said the $10,000 a month in child support Jagger was ordered to pay just isn't enough—and the NY courts so far seem to agree. The court examiner denied the man of wealth and taste's request to be exempted from full financial disclosure, Salon.com reports. It is estimated that the notoriously frugal Jagger, who has been able to suppress his worth in previous divorce and paternity cases, is worth over half a billion dollars. In court, a teary Morad rationalized her needs, which include a housekeeper, a nanny, two cell phones for the nanny, $6,000 in rent and $20 a month in excess baggage fines. Asked why she needed a nanny as well as a housekeeper, she explained that the nanny doesn't clean. Morad estimates she will need $35,000 per month to raise Lucas, who is 14 months old. If New York Family Court agrees, Jagger can expect to pay upwards of $7.14 million to raise his latest child. "When will I learn to wear a rubber?" Jagger was heard asking. HITS' Roy Trakin said he would allow Jagger to impregnate him for $1,000 a month as long as all meals were free.

FROM "COP KILLER" TO COP
Ice-T
has joined the cast of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." The rapper-actor, who will play detective Odafin Tutuola on the show, will be the partner of Richard Belzer's John Munch. Ice-T is no stranger to acting, having scored parts on such TV and film projects as "Players," "Exiled: A Law & Order Movie," "New York Undercover," "New Jack City," "Trespass" and others. "While he has had much experience on screen, it was his Oscar-worthy performances in 'Breakin' and ‘Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo' that made him the leading man that he is," a producer said.

DOES A GIRL REALLY WANT MASS VOMITING?
Medics estimate about six dozen people had to leave or be removed from Christina Aguilera's Nebraska performance last week (8/3). The crowd of about 5,600 rushed the stage, crushing those in the front. That crush, plus the heat in the metal building, made the concert too uncomfortable for some. Others, meanwhile, had to leave due to the intense nausea caused by watching Aguilera's set, some said. "The smell of vomit was overwhelming," a medic offered. "I think it was the realization that this music just sucks that ignited hurling among those in attendance," a candy striper said. "Even parents waiting outside for their kids got sick when she broke into ‘What A Girl Wants.'"

HANGIN' WITH A CRIMINAL…AND A GUY FROM THE FUGEES
Singer Carly Simon posted $250,000 bail for John Forte, one of her backup singers and an associate of rap group the Fugees, after he was arrested at Newark International Airport on cocaine charges. Forte was charged with conspiring to distribute nearly 31 pounds of cocaine. Prosecutors say they have taped telephone conversations in which Forte referred to the cocaine as "ice cream" and arranged to pick up the shipment at the airport. Federal agents arrested him after two women handed him a suitcase. A federal magistrate set bail for Forte at $625,000 and Simon posted $250,000 of it last week. Forte said all he requested was 31 pounds of powdered vanilla ice cream which, unbeknownst to him, meant cocaine in some circles. In related news, President Bill Clinton on Sunday grabbed a saxophone and joined Simon in a rendition of "My Funny Valentine" at a fund-raiser for first lady Hillary Clinton. The "jam" occurred at a swanky dinner at Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's home. After the duet, Clinton was heard asking Simon if in the future, his bother Roger could call on her after his frequent trips to "Baskin-Robbins."

PEARL JAM BACK ON ROAD
While some predicted they may never perform in public again, Pearl Jam has begun to put the pieces back together following their performance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, where nine people were trampled to death during their set (hitsdailydouble.com. 7/3). The group returned to the stage Thursday in Virginia Beach, VA, for their first show since the tragedy, which took place June 30. In related news, the band also agreed to meet in Miami with Danish police, who are still investigating the event, and at first, blamed the band for the incident but rescinded the allegations. "This is not a criminal investigation and there is no basis to make anybody responsible in a criminal case after the incident," Roskilde police said in a letter to Pearl Jam. "Basically, we are fans of Eddie [Vedder], and this is the only way to get his autograph."

BLIGE TO BACK VICTIM'S FAMILIES
Grammy
-winning singer Mary J. Blige is offering support to the families of two black men fatally shot by two white police officers during a drug raid in Berkeley, MO. Blige briefly attended a rally Friday night at the restaurant where Earl Murray and Ronald Beasley were shot June 12. Police have said the shootings were justified because Murray tried to ram the officers with his car during the arrest. Relatives and civil rights activists have suggested police used excessive force because the men were shot numerous times.
