The Only Place Where George Harrison Rubs Shoulders With Whitney, Eminem And Tim McGraw
Prosecutors in Macomb County, MI have formally charged Eminem with carrying a concealed weapon without a license and assault with a deadly weapon for the rapper's involvement in a fight outside a bar in Warren, MI, on Sunday (6/4). According to prosecutors, Eminem is to return to Warren today (6/7) to be booked and arraigned on the charges. The rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted on both counts—five years for carrying a concealed weapon and four years for the assault charge. Macomb County Prosecutor Carl Marlinga told MTV News that the melee at the Hot Rocks Cafe and subsequent arrests appear to have been caused by a domestic dispute between Eminem and his wife, Kimberly Scott Mathers. Sources could not confirm if the fight between the couple was over Christina Aguilera… Because nothing would make us happier than more Eminem news, here's more Eminem news. In an effort to put things into perspective, the rapper's wife offered her side of the story in an open letter to the Detroit Free Press. "Just because my husband is an entertainer that does not mean that our personal business is for everyone's entertainment purposes," Mrs. Mathers wrote. "I would also like to state, since my husband has had no problem trying to make me look like an unfaithful wife, that every time I find a picture of him with other women, or read in magazines that he's involved with ‘groupies,' I don't go and show up where he is, making a huge scene and getting our faces put all over the TV and papers." The Matherses will settle their differences on a very special episode of "Ricki Lake."… The man accused of attempted murder in the December stabbing of ex-Beatles guitarist George Harrison and his wife, Olivia, pleaded not guilty Tuesday (6/6) in Oxford Crown Court. The trial of Michael Abram is scheduled to begin Nov. 14. Abram, 33, from the Beatles' hometown of Liverpool, England, is said to suffer from mental illness. He was remanded to a Merseyside psychiatric ward, where he has stayed since being charged. Reports that Abram was the walrus could not be confirmed… Court action against two country singing stars has been postponed until July 18. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney were arrested Saturday night after performing at the George Strait Country Music Festival near Buffalo, NY. Erie County Sheriff's deputies said Chesney rode away on a deputy's horse and McGraw tussled with police who tried to round up the horse. Tom Eoannou, the lawyer for McGraw, said the court postponement will give both sides time to investigate the incident. Eoannou said he is confident the charges will be dropped "with no hard feelings on either side." "It was just some good ole boys havin' a good ole time," he said. "Lucky this didn't happen 100 years ago, or they'd have been hanged as horse thieves." In related news, Eoannou has appealed to Pat Sajak to loan him a consonant or two… On Thursday, June 15, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) will present its highest honor, the Governors Award, to Brandy, david foster',390,400);">david foster',390,400);">David Foster, James Newton Howard and les bider',390,400);">les bider',390,400);">Les Bider. "Why Brandy?" explained NARAS President Michael Greene. "Well, people say she's a fine girl, what a good wife she will be."… Music news Web site Wall of Sound reports that Robert Smith is indeed disintegrating The Cure. The band's latest disc, "Bloodflowers," will be its last. This is the most depressing news for Cure fans since the band released "The Love Cats."… According to the New York Post, rapper DMX is in some trouble with the DMV. The Platinum-selling Ruff Ryder allegedly slammed his Ford Expedition into a car full of women in New York City and then fled the scene, blaming the women for the accident. According to the women, DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons) first claimed not to have a license, then tried to get a passenger in his car to take the blame, then refused to give the women his insurance information, saying, "Fuck you, bitch! I'm not paying for shit!" before speeding off. A spokesman for the rapper had no comment, which is better than saying, "Fuck you, bitch! I'm not commenting on shit!"… Beleaguered diva Whitney Houston rejected pleas from friends and family to enter rehab last summer. So says the forthcoming issue of US Weekly, due to hit newsstands on Friday (6/9). According to the magazine, Houston sat dazed on the bed in her Beverly Hills Hotel suite, with broken beer bottles everywhere, while her gospel-singing mother Cissy, friends and at least two drug specialists pleaded with her to enter a rehab center. "There was nothing her mother could say that night to make her pay attention," said one source. "It was very sad." The magazine apparently cites this incident as beginning of Houston's "year of living dangerously." No word at presstime whether Linda Hunt would be tapped for the lead in the inevitable biopic.
