MTVi's creating a little mischief on the Web.
The MTVi Group, which includes MTV.com, VH1.com and Sonicnet.com, has further beefed up its online presence with the acquisition of Mischief New Media and its suite of sites, which fall under the MusicStation.com umbrella, including MusicNewswire, ShowBizWire, The CD Club Web Server,an online outlet for BMG Music Service and Columbia House, and RockOnTV, which provides music-related TV listings. All will be folded into MTVi’s SonicNet hub, which includes trailblazing webzine Addicted To Noise. With ten hyperlinks, you get eggroll... and your own personalized AOL chat room if you got this far.
As part of the arrangement, Mischief founder Jason Hirschhorn becomes VP Product Development for SonicNet.
The acquisition of Mischief New Media further strengthens our position as the #1 music content company,” said MTVi Group President/CEO Nicholas Butterworth before pouring his mother syrup onto a heaping stack of pancakes. “The MusicStation properties have unique content and community features which will add value to our overall offering.
“We are also very excited to welcome Jason, one of the true visionaries in the interactive entertainment space, to MTVi. His extensive experience in the online music industry and his creative approach to Web design will be a tremendous asset to SonicNet.com and the MTVi network. And if that doesn't pan out, we're throwing him in a mini-van and sending him out with the next 'Road Rules' cast.”
Added Hirschhorn: “I am delighted to be joining SonicNet.com and the entire MTVi team. It is an honor to bring the MusicStation properties into the MTVi family. With the global promotional power of MTV Networks, the MusicStation properties will now be exposed to a worldwide audience of music fans through 18 music Web sites and through MTV and VH1 television. Now do I get Carson Daly's e-mail address?”
