The one-time financial guru has put together a group of "substantial people with substantial assets and impeccable reputations" to vouch for him, defense attorney Ronald Fischetti said.
Giacchetto has pleaded innocent to federal charges of securities fraud, stealing more than $9 million from two dozen clients, lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission and illegally altering his passport.
If found guilty, he could face 30 years in prison and fines of more than $1 million. Through his Cassandra Group, Giacchetto made investment decisions for Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and the band Phish, among others.
Both sides alluded Wednesday to the cavalcade of celebrity former clients who will likely be called to testify.
