Jimmy Page’s Back, David Crosby’s Dream, Bowie’s Baby And Other Bad Names For Bands

BACK IN THE SADDLE
A back injury has forced Jimmy Page to cancel the second leg of his tour with the Black Crowes. Performances from Tuesday (8/15) in Irvine, CA, through 8/30 in Houston will be affected. Those dates are expected to be rescheduled before the launch of the previously announced third leg. The cancellation is not expected to affect the Who tour, which has shadowed the Black Crowes/Page stint and shared equipment. Said Who frontman Roger Daltrey: "If Page thinks this will get him out of carrying my makeup case, he's sadly mistaken."

MORE FINE FAMILY PROGRAMMING
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
, DMX and Blink-182 are the latest acts to sign on for the 17th Annual MTV Video Music Awards. They'll join NSYNC, Eminem, Britney Spears and Rage Against The Machine for the ceremony, which takes place at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Thursday, September 7. MTV will air the event live, starting at 8 p.m. ET. While RHCP and Blink-182 are known for kooky onstage antics, DMX said: "I ain't wearin' no tube sock onstage. I'm putting on a fishnet stocking."

HOPEFULLY, HE WON'T GO ON A RANT
The Dream Foundation is launching an annual fund-raising event, Friends of the Dream Foundation, on Sept. 28 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Melissa Etheridge, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross and Taylor Dayne will perform as the Foundation honors David and Jan Crosby. Dennis Miller will host and compare the performances to 14th century popes and characters from 19th century novels.

WHAT ABOUT IUMA THURMAN?
Forget Brandon and Britney… The Internet Underground Music Archive wants to see nurseries filled with little baby "IUMAs." The Web site is offering $5,000 of free merchandise, downloads, CDs and concerts to the first family to christen a child "IUMA." Said GM Antony Brydon, who adopted the name of the gender-bending Spacehog guitarist: "Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys have put our children in peril. But we can save our children before their tastes are soured by bubblegum culture. By the time they reach seven or eight, it's too late. But a baby named ‘IUMA' will grow up in a loving home filled to the brim with the best new music on the planet." IUMA will also cover the medical costs associated with getting beat up for having a stupid name.

BABY LOVE
If David Bowie had been reading hitsdailydouble instead of downloading porn, maybe he and model wife Iman would have jumped on the "IUMA" bandwagon. Instead, they named their newborn daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones. The bouncing baby girl was born Tuesday (8/15) at 5:06 a.m., weighing seven pounds, four ounces. Bowie reportedly assisted in the delivery and cut the umbilical cord. Of the birth experience, Bowie said: "Yech! It's so messy! Wanna see the placenta?"

JUST DON'T SHOUT OUT "DUDE!" IN THE CROWD
The local video store may be out of "Gleaming the Cube," but don't fret. The Experience Music Project is holding its own homage to skate culture. From Aug. 17-19, the Seattle music museum is exploring the rebellion with its Skate Punk Exhibit. The event features old-school skaters Tony Alva, Steve Olson and Kevin Thatcher, skate punk magazine "Thrasher" and performances by U.S. Bombs, Monkeywrench and TSOL. A scheduling conflict will prevent Michael J. Fox from reenacting his killer "Back To The Future" skate moves.

NOT FREE AS A BIRD
Paul McCartney
has allegedly put together a new Beatles record. At least, that's how Britain's Sun tabloid refers to it. McCartney collaborated with the Welsh pop group Super Furry Animals to create "Free Now," which features outtakes from the Fab Four's recording sessions in the mid-1900s. "It's a new little piece of the Beatles. ‘Free Now' is an outbreak from my normal stuff," McCartney said. "It's more underground than what you usually hear from me, but I like to be free enough to do this sort of thing." The song features the voice of the late John Lennon, who can be heard saying, "OK, Paul, are you ready, boy? This is it." When run backwards, it almost sounds like Lennon says, "Stop using my voice, I'm a dead man," over and over again.

TOP JIMMY, HE'S THE KING
Dancer Jimmy Gulzar, better known as the estranged husband of Spice Girl Mel B—no, I take that back, he IS better known as "dancer Jimmy Gulzar"—has been arrested over an alleged assault. The 30-year-old dancer wasnabbed north of London, and, according to a spokesman, released "to return pending further inquiries." Said Gulzar as he was let out on bail, "See, I can get arrested in this town. Which Spice Girl am I married to again?"

IN CAHOOTS WITH CARLOS
Cahoots Inc.
has announced the formation of a partnership with Carlos Santana to provide free, real-time voice, text conversation and instant messaging capabilities to visitors at Caf Carlos, part of Santana's official Web site. "We are excited to join Carlos Santana in delivering an enhanced interactive experience to his many fans around the world," said Cahoots Prez and CEO John Rizzo. "Sadly, there is no way for us to deliver a decent buzz online, but otherwise the site provides a virtual Santana experience."
