WHAT A WEEK FOR EMINEM

Wife’s Apparent Suicide Attempt, New Run-Ins With The Police Add To Already Pending Court Cases

Eminem's wife, Kimberly Mathers, was hospitalized on Saturday (7/8) after she slit her wrists following her husband's show as part of the Up In Smoke tour at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The latest incident adds to a tumultuous weekend for Eminem, who made an appearance in court and had multiple problems with Michigan lawmen.

According to the Detroit Fox television affiliate, Mathers is resting at the couple's Sterling Heights home.

Speaking to Fox, an unidentified neighbor chalked up the attempt to "just a lot of pressure, I think. But she seems like a real nice woman."

Eminem continued on with the tour on Sunday (7/9) after playing the Palace of Auburn Hills, also in suburban Detroit, on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the super hot rap star waived a preliminary hearing Friday on charges that he illegally possessed and brandished a concealed weapon outside a stereo shop.

Eminem appeared in a Michigan court for his arrest on a felony charge of possession of a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in public. The charges stem from an incident in Royal Oak, MI, on June 3 when he allegedly pulled a gun and threatened Douglas Dale, an employee of the Insane Clown Posse.

The court set a July 17 arraignment date for Eminem, who could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the felony and 90 days for the misdemeanor.

In addition, Eminem's home state of Michigan looks to have the Up In Smoke tour, which features Eminem, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and others, set in its sights.

Detroit city officials Thursday (7/6) pressured tour promoters to pull a video that appears during the show because it shows partially nude women and depicts a liquor-store holdup in which Snoop holds a robber and asks the audience, "Should I shoot?"

The officials viewed the video before the show, and threatened to cut power to the stage and arrest organizers if it was shown. Officials also balked at Eminem's plan to carry an unclothed inflatable doll on stage. The rapper, already facing a couple of court appearances in the state on gun charges, gave in.

"He figured it wasn't worth the risk," said Eminem's lawyer Joel Martin.

On Friday, Auburn Hills police demanded the same thing from promoters and threatened charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors if the video was shown. But hours before the show, promoters went to court and won.

"What makes you think you can edit content?'' the federal judge asked city officials. "Isn't that classic censorship and prior restraint?"

Despite the ruling, Auburn Hills police still cited Dr. Dre on a misdemeanor charge of promotion of pornography. Dre's lawyer said he was considering suing.

Eminem, whose latest release has been No. 1 for six weeks, is due back in court Tuesday (7/11) to face charges stemming from another incident alleged to have occurred within hours of the altercation with Dale. Police charge that on June 4, Eminem assaulted a man who purportedly kissed his wife.
