WANNA ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT?

Reading This Music Roundup Might Not Inform You,
But It Will Certainly Waste Your Time
The ROCKRGRL Music Conference 2000, to be held in Seattle, WA, Nov. 2-4, is looking for female performing artists to showcase (deadline is July 17). This year's conference will feature panels, workshops and clinics; three nights of live music featuring female artists in all styles; an awards banquet; Kid Kamp for children age 5-12; and a trade show with a female-friendly new equipment component. Scheduled participants include Rolling Stone's Holly George-Warren, Soundgarden/Alice In Chains manager Susan Silver, songwriter Sue Ennis, journalist Jaan Uhelzski and world-renowned groupie Pamela des Barres. "Pamela seems VERY interested in the ‘female-friendly new equipment,'" said one conference organizer. "I get the feeling she's expecting something other than musical instruments."… Ice-T will release his first greatest hits package, "Greatest Hits: The Evidence," through Al Teller's Atomic Pop on Aug. 8. Representing over 15 years of Ice-T's musical career, the set includes "6 ‘N The Mornin'," "Colors," "New Jack Hustler," "Original Gangster" and the new track "Money, Power, Women." Liner notes for the set, as well as a video conversation between Ice and Chuck D discussing the current state of hip-hop, are currently available on Ice-T's Atomic Pop-hosted Web site. Strangely enough, the Ice-T Web site doesn't make much mention of the hit show "Players." Hmmm… On Monday (7/3), Turner Classic Movies will broadcast "The Wizard Of Oz" (at 8 p.m. PT), with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" simulcast over its Second Audio Program (SAP) channel. Since Floyd's album was released in 1973, fans have noticed more than 80 coincidences between the synced album and the 1939 film. The members of Pink Floyd have dismissed the coincidences as…well…coincidental. "Whoever figured that out," said Floyd's Roger Waters, "must have been high or something."… On Thursday (6/29) night, 26 Los Angeles-area bands were honored in the L.A. Weekly Music Awards 2000. Among those honored were Macy Gray (Best New Artist), Rage Against The Machine (Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Band), Eels (Best Pop/Rock Band), Beck (Best Rock/Pop Songwriter/Composer) and, naturally, The L.A. Philharmonic New Music Ensemble (Outstanding Classical Ensemble/Artist). Once again, no awards were given out to perennial Hollywood fixture Angelyne… Reuters confirmed that Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood, 53, has checked into a London rehabilitation clinic to be treated for alcohol abuse, although there were no further details on the length of stay or type of treatment. Wood, who had recently joked in an interview, "I must have hollow legs to cope with all the drink I get through," had built a pub on his property so he wouldn't have to go out to have a drink and have a good time. As far as what prompted Wood to finally enter rehab, a source close to Wood said, "I'm no expert, but when you build a pub on your property, that's probably a good sign that you need help."… Police in Orange County, FL, are searching for vandals who desecrated the graves of Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, two members of the legendary Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd who died in a 1977 plane crash. Early Thursday (6/29) morning, vandals broke into the vault containing the remains of Van Zant and dumped the casket onto the ground. Gaines' cremated remains were treated the same way. "We only have this to say to the perpetrators," said one police officer. "What's your name?" The police were following a lead on a man simply known as The Breeze, who was distinguished by that smell.
