YOUTUBE MUSIC AWARDS:
THE WINNERS

Eminem Named Artist of the Year; Taylor Swift, Macklemore, Stirling/Pentatonix Among Other Winners
Eminem was named Artist of the Year at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, hosted Sunday at NYC's Pier 36. Video of the Year went to Girls' Generation's "I Got a Boy."

Taylor Swift scored YouTube Phenomenon, a category based on the greatest number of fan responses, for "I Knew You Were Trouble." Response of the Year, the category for cover versions, parodies and remixes, went to Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix for their rendition of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were dubbed YouTube Breakthrough, which recognizes artists with the most growth in views and subscribers. Innovation of the Year, calling out "unique concepts" in music videos, went to DeStorm for "See Me Standing."

Nominees were announced on 10/21; they were selected based on YouTube data from the prior year. Fans were able to vote by sharing the nominations across various social platforms. Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts hosted the show, which was overseen by creative director Spike Jonze.

Performers at the awards show included Eminem (here he is doing "Rap God"), Lady Gaga ("Dope" is here), Arcade Fire ("Afterlife"), Avicii, Earl Sweatshirt, M.I.A., Walk off the Earth and Stirling. The weeks leading up to the show saw music events streamed from Seoul, Moscow, London and Rio.

A piano-playing armadillo who failed to secure a nomination was overheard saying the whole goddamn thing was rigged.
