Lava/Republic’s Lorde dropped just 14%—confirming
that her Pure Heroine has remarkable sales legs.

KATY DID IT!

PRISM's 287k Bow is First #1 for Team CMG; Fifth Harmony, DJ Khaled, AFI Bow

Capitol’s Katy Perry rules the roost this week, topping the HITS Album Sales Chart with a 287k debut for her PRISM. Looks like that gold truck commissioned to drive around promoting the album is in fact filled with money. Among other causes for celebration, Perry’s chart bow is a landmark event for Capitol Music Group head Steve Barnett and team, as it’s the first #1 debut under the new regime.

Perry’s last full-length, 2010’s Teenage Dream, sold 192k in its maiden week; it’s gone on to sell 2.8 million.

The Top 10’s other debuts are from SYCO/Epic’s Fifth Harmony (#6), Cash Money/Republic’s DJ Khaled (#7) and Republic’s AFI (#8).

A cluster of chart veterans occupy the rest of the Top 10. RCA’s Miley Cyrus (#2, 43k, -41%), YM/CM/Republic’s Drake (#3, 43k, -24%) and last week’s #1, Monkeywrench/Republic’s Pearl Jam (#4, 41k, -75%) all posted solid numbers. But it’s worth noting that Lava/Republic’s Lorde, who comes in at #5 with 40k, dropped a mere 14% in her third week—confirming our prior observation that her Pure Heroine has remarkable sales legs.

We’d also be remiss if we neglected to mention that Monte Lipman’s Republic has five of the Top 10.

Farther down the chart, we note the #15 bow of another Capitol thrush, Tori Kelly.

We have a tie for greatest gainer this week between UMe comp Now 47 (up 14 places to #26) and Capitol Nashville’s Blake Shelton (vaulting #46-36), both of whom are up 13%.

Streeting today are Merge/Capitol’s Arcade Fire, Showdog’s Toby Keith, a Christmas set from RCA’s Kelly Clarkson and Valory’s Thomas Rhett, among others.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to go try on our Halloween costume. We’re going as the immigration bill and never leaving the House.
