Fun's big debut is attributable at least in part to Al's multi-video rollout leading up to release, notably a goof on Robin Thicke’s "Blurred Lines," entitled "Word Crimes" that has now earned almost 10m views.

NERDS OVERTHROW ALBUM CHART

Weird Al's Legions Power His Parody-Powered Fun to #1

RCA scores its second consecutive #1 this week, as Weird Al Yankovic’s Mandatory Fun tops the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with over 104k. The Nerd Nation has spoken, and would now like to resume its game of Tetris, if you don't mind.

Mandatory Fun's big debut is attributable at least in part to Al's multi-video rollout leading up to release, notably a goof on Robin Thicke’s "Blurred Lines," entitled "Word Crimes," that has now earned almost 10m views.

With his new hit, the parodist par excellence has brought in more than double the first-week sales of 2011’s Alpocalypse (44k). It may interest you to know that the Grammy-winning, accordion-wielding satirist has four Gold records and six Platinum to his name.

Jason Mraz, comes in at #2 with just under 84k, while DGC/Interscope’s Rise Against bowed at #3 with 50k and Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop Kids followed with 45k.

Disney’s Frozen ST rounded out the Top 5 with 43k, down only 9% since last week. This marks its 30th consecutive week in the Top 5. But who's counting?

Capitol’s Sam Smith holds strong at #6, down only 17% with 35k in his fifth week. At the moment, the only thing stronger is what we just poured in our coffee. NOW’s Now 50 is up 19% this week and landed at #8 with 23k. By the way, NOW is a UMG-Sony joint venture that's also part of the UMe universe. Stop us if you've heard that before.

Warner Bros. Nashville’s Blake Shelton re-entered the chart at #10 with a bit over 21k, riding a $5.99 sale at iTunes, while RCA’s Bleachers debuted at #11 with 19k.

Nuclear Blast America’s deathcore quintet Suicide Silence bum-rushed the Top 15 with their fourth studio album. If they sell any more records, they could be eligible for a Weird Al parody. RCA’s Marsha Ambrosius bowed at #13, while Harvest’s Morrissey snagged #18.

Last week’s chart-topper, Monkey Puzzle/RCA’s Sia, lands at #19 with just over 13k (-74%).

Streeting at presstime is the debut full-length from Capitol’s fiery hot 5 Seconds of Summer. Early reads are estimating 250-275k for what will undoubtedly be next week’s #1.

Def Jam’s Common, 808/Ingroove’s Jesse McCartney and FrontiersYes will all debut on the chart next week, as well. The latter will undoubtedly be heard casting its proggy spell in President Glauber's office.

In other news, California's unprecedented drought has forced us to break into the tequila.
