SONS RISE AGAIN

No Top 10 Debuts, but Alabama Shakes Continue to “Hold On," Rising to #6
Talk about your post-Grammy bump. Glassnote “Album of the Year” winners Mumford & Sons’ Babel continues to tower over the field, remaining at #1 with another 60k in the sales till for a total approaching 2 million.

Atlantic’s Bruno Mars also experiences the tail-end of the sales spike, with 49k to his total of 900k at #2. Reprise’s Josh Groban (#3), Capitol’s Now 45 (#4) and Dualtone’s The Lumineers (#5), now over a million, round out the Top 5.

This week’s big story, though, is ATO’s re-energized Alabama Shakes, which moves #23-6, +23%, thanks to a sizzling SNL appearance. The “Best New Artist” nominees didn’t even perform on the awards show, though lead singer Brittany Howard did participate in the tribute to the late Levon Helm taking a memorable verse of The Band’s “The Weight.”

Capitol’s Grammy Nominees 2013 (#7), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna (#8), Fueled by Ramen’s fun. (#9) and Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#10) complete the sales leaders.

Century Media’s Buckcherry (#25) and Warner Bros.’ Atlas Genius (#32) are the other two new Top 50 entries, while Republic’s Of Monsters and Men (#43), XO/Republic’s The Weeknd (#47), Syco/Columbia’s One Direction Up All Night (#48) and Provident’s Red (#50) return to the chart.

Mackemore & Ryan Lewis’ self-released The Heist is on the upswing, moving #32-16, +6% as the week’s top gainer. Also showing upward mobility are UMe’s Pitch Perfect soundtrack (#16-11), Kidinakorner/Interscope’s Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons (#21-13), XL/Columbia’s Adele (#19-14), RCA’s Alicia Keys (#24-15), Big Machine/ Republic’s Florida Georgia Line (#29-19), Syco/Columbia One Direction (#30-21), Aftermath/Interscope’s Kendrick Lamar (#35-22), Republic’s Les Miserables soundtrack (#39-28) and RCA’s Kelly Clarkson Greatest Hits (#44-37).

Hitting retail this week are XL’s Atoms for Peace, the side project from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, and Christian group Hillsong United. Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan and a Legacy album from Jimi Hendrix arrive next Tuesday (3/5), with Island’s Bon Jovi and Columbia’s David Bowie (3/12) the following week, and RCA’s Justin Timberlake on March 19.
