Frozen Regains #1 Spot on Album Chart; Luke Bryan, Aloe Blacc Debut in Top 5

Disney’s Frozen regains the throne atop this week’s Album Sales Chart with 96k, down just 1%. With the movie’s DVD exploding, expect the soundtrack to rack up a far bigger number when it repeats at #1 next week (see today’s story for more cold data). Ken Bunt says snow is the most beautiful thing in the world, but then again, he works in Burbank.

Country giant Luke Bryan takes #2 with the bow of his latest Spring Break set (Capitol Nashville), moving 75k; he’s followed by last week’s champ, MMG/Def Jam/IDJ’s Rick Ross (46k, -75%), Columbia’s Pharrell (44k, -60%) and the chart bow from XIX/Interscope’s Aloe Blacc, who rounds out the Top 5 with 44k.

The Top 10 also features debuts from 311 (311 Records), which lands the #6 spot with 40k; the hip-hop comp Young Money: Rise of an Empire (YM/CM/Republic), at #7 with 31k; and RCA Nashville’s Sara Evans with 29k. Lava/Republic’s Lorde sells another 27k (-19% from her customary 30k) for #9, while EMI Nashville’s Eric Church completes the leaderboard with 23k (-24%).

Columbia’s Beyoncé (#12, 22k, -15%) and Capitol’s Beck (#13, 21k, -42%) keep moving. The week’s greatest gainer is Domino’s Arctic Monkeys, who jump #33-24 and add 29%.

To geek out on all the data, peep the chart, in all its numerical magnificence,
right here.

Streeting this week are Columbia’s Foster the People, CTE/Def Jam/IDJ’s YG, Big Beat/Atlantic’s Skrillex, Republic’s Enrique Iglesias and Razor & Tie’s The Pretty Reckless, among others. We’ve got early projections on some of these puppies in the
Rumor Mill. The following week brings the new one from RCA’s Shakira.

In other news, Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea gave several elderly Germans a nostalgic woody today.
