Team Interscope Edges RCA at the Wire; We Break Down the Competition

With a late-year run, John Janick’s Team Interscope seizes the top share on the Overall Mediabase label chart with 15.8%, narrowly edging out Joe Riccitelli’s RCA. Interscope is #1 at Top 40 (18.8%), AC (22.3%), Hot AC (21.3%) and Triple A (16.7%). Top acts included Robin Thicke, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, OneRepublic, Kendrick Lamar and Phillip Phillips.

RCA, which led throughout most of 2013, garnered 15.4% and was #2 at Top 40 (16.1%), Rhythmic (15.3%), AC (19%), Hot AC (16.7%), #1 at Urban AC (33.5%), #3 at Urban (14.9%) and Top 5 at Active and Mainstream Rock. Top acts included Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Three Days Grace, Kelly Clarkson, Miguel, A$AP Rocky and Miley Cyrus.

Republic, overseen by Charlie Walk, scored at 12.2% Overall share, holding the #3 spot at Rhythmic, #2 Urban, #4 Top 40 and Alternative and #1 Active and Mainstream Rock. Lorde, Florida Georgia Line, Taylor Swift, Drake, Of Monsters and Men, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick, Lil Wayne and Volbeat were among the reasons why.

Rick Sackheim and the IDJ squad ranked #4 in Overall share, led by Avicii, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Fall Out Boy, Ne-Yo, August Alsina, 2 Chainz and Neon Trees; the label group finished #1 at both Rhythmic (19.6%) and Urban (21.6%).

Other Top 10 notables include Lee Leipsner’s Columbia crew (Daft Punk, J Cole, The Neighbourhood, Walk Off the Earth, Train, Passion Pit, Calvin Harris); Peter Gray’s Warner Bros. (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Muse, Passenger, Atlas Genius, Jason Derulo); Dennis Reese’s Capitol (Katy Perry, Capital Cities, Bastille, Emeli Sande, Alice in Chains, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Sick Puppies).

Honorable mention goes to the indie sector, as both Dualtone’s The Lumineers and Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons make strong showings at multiple formats.
