ALDEAN'S NIGHT TRAIN A-ROLLING

Jason Aldean’s Album Leads the Way, with Brandy, Scotty McCreery, Jamey Johnson Registering Top 10 Debuts
Broken Bow country singer Jason Aldean’s Night Train, his fifth studio album, has put the 35-year-old on the fast track to mainstream success, with a first-week sales total of 415k, the second-biggest debut of the year next to Mumford & Sons, though soon to be eclipsed by Taylor Swift.

That’s enough to land him at #1, with Glassnote’s Babel dropping to #2, giving Bob Morelli’s indie RED the top two albums on this week’s chart.

RCA’s new Brandy album, Two Eleven, proves a nice surprise for Peter Edge and Tom Corson’s label, debuting at #3, giving Nipper three in the Top 10 alongside P!nk’s The Truth About Love (#5) and Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream (#8).

Other Top 10 newcomers include a pair of Mercury Nashville country acts in Interscope’s American Idol winner Scotty McCreery (#4) and guitar-slinger Jamey Johnson (#6).

Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Little Big Town (#7), XL/Columbia’s Adele (#9) and Macklemore’s Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (#10) complete the sales leaders.

Among the new Top 50 entries are Williams Street’s Metalocalypse Dethklok (#11), Reprise’s Donald Fagen (#12), Republic’s Anberlin (#14) and Casablanca/Republic’s Mika (#46), while Republic’s Of Monsters and Men re-enters at #47.

The week’s top double-digit gainers are Atlantic’s Hunter Hayes (#41-28, +43%) and Dualtone’s sizzling The Lumineers (#28-13, +15%), riding the success of their “Ho Hey” smash.

Other movers include Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons Sigh No More album (#29-19, +8%), 19/Arista Nashville’s Carrie Underwood (#33-26, +9%) and Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Eric Church (#38, +8%).

This week’s release slate is all about Taylor Swift’s Red, set for a million-plus first-week, and the fast-rising Aftermath/Interscope South Central hip-hop heir apparent Kendrick Lamar, along with Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum Christmas album, Warner Bros.Gary Clark Jr., Columbia’s Tony Bennett Latin duets album, Hollywood’s newest teenpop phenom Bridgit Mendler, Astralwerks/EMI’s Swedish House Mafia and Atlantic’s Stone Sour.

It’s beginning to look a lot like the fourth quarter, folks. Buckle up.
