STILL DAFT! (BUT GUITARS
ARE BACK)

Daft Punk Remains #1, but Alice In Chains, John Fogerty, Little Mix Deliver Top 5 Debuts
Columbia's Daft Punk retained the top spot on our sales chart this week, adding another 92k to their boffo 325k bow (a 72% drop). But the helmeted ones are followed by an eclectic trio of debuts from a resurgent grunge band, a classic-rock legend and a distaff pop outfit.

Capitol rockers Alice in Chains blasted to #2 with The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, moving 63k+ and proving that pissed-off dudes playing loud riffs can still make a serious noise at retail and e-tail. The band's prior release, 2009's Black Gives Way to Blue, bowed with 125k and eventually sold about 525k.

Coming in at #3 was Vanguard's John Fogerty, whose reworking of classic Creedence and solo material with a multiformat menagerie of duet partners sold north of 54k. His '09 set, The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again, bowed with 20k and went on to sell over 100k.

Then there's Syco/Columbia's British femme foursome Little Mix, who formed, we're told, exclusively for the U.K. X Factor series, going on to become the first group contender to win. The pop gals saw 50k copies of their DNA album disappear.

The top 5 is rounded out by Capitol Nashville's Darius Rucker, who followed up his 77k, #2 bow with an additional 42k, a decline of only 45%.

Only two debuts remain in the Top 20, Def Jam/IDJ's The-Dream, who sold 22k of his IV Play (his 2010 release, Love King, debuted with around 60k and went on to sell 175k) and Paul McCartney & Wings' reissued Wings Over America (Hear Music), which fell just short of 20k. Meanwhile, RCA's Kid Ink (#27) made a mark with 14k and the Sony Masterworks Broadway soundtrack for multiple Tony nominee Kinky Boots (#46) strutted onto the chart with just shy of 8k.

The week's greatest gainer, with 40k+ (a 61% boost), was Warner Bros. Nashville's Blake Shelton, who benefited from a Voice-themed $6.99 weekend album sale at iTunesas did the Adam Levine-fronted Maroon 5, who jumped 53% over last week with 15k.

Hitting this week, it's looking like a coronation for Matador's Queens of the Stone Age and another heavy rock record, ... Like Clockwork. This feat will mark the third recent upper-chart bow for a Beggars Group act (following on the heels of XL's #1 Vampire Weekend and 4AD's #3 The National). Other debuts include UMe's Megadeth, Capitol's Capital Cities, Vanguard's Barenaked Ladies, Rise's Sleeping With Sirens, Dine Alone's City and Colour and Glee star Matthew Morrison on 222/INgrooves.
