ASHLEY AND RANDY'S
GLOBAL ADVENTURE

U.K. Exec, ex-AEG Live Chief to Pursue Label, Management, Pubco; Weiss Said to Be Attached

Global Entertainment is the chosen moniker for the new company headed by Ashley Tabor (head of U.K. radio giant Global Group) former AEG Live chief Randy Phillips; we first told you about the Tabor-Phillips partnership, you may recall, in early March. The new venture is said to include a label, management company and pubco.

Sources say former UMG East czar Barry Weiss will segue to Global; when asked for comment, Weiss, who just stepped down from his UMG post amid a large-scale eastern reorganization, referred to joining Global as "one of the many opportunities I am exploring."

Tabor, the son of bookmaking/horse-breeding/property tycoon Michael Tabor, dropped out of school at 16 and has worked in radio ever since—save for a stint running a talent management agency, during which time he’s credited with discovering Corinne Bailey Rae, among other artists.

With his father’s help, he purchased GCap Media and Chryalis Radio (for £545m) and founded Global Group in 2008, when he was just 31; by 2010 he was deemed "probably the most powerful man in [U.K.] commercial radio" by London’s Telegraph, and his various radio outlets are said to command some 18m listeners per week. He recently purchased a mansion in the West Hollywood hills, beginning his U.S. showbiz stint in style.

Phillips has cultivated strong relationships with some agents, artists and managers during his tenure at AEG, where he presided over the live-music division from 2002-2013; before joining the House of Anschutz, he was a manager himself, working with such acts as Lionel Ritchie, Rod Stewart and Toni Braxton.

Among the questions askers are asking about Global: Will they try to promote some big tours? Who will partner with the newco for records and publishing? Is there a plan to roll up management companies, a la Irving? Stay tuned.
